The center finds: 2025 physics load comes from formula recall to choose the right physical model, determining the right variable/direction and coordinating several solution steps together.
Research methodology
The analysis covers six questions from Q55 to Q60. Each question is coded by main topic, subtopic, format, primary skill, DOK, language and reading load, calculation load, reasoning load, distractor strength, estimated time and syllabus area.
Difficulty scores and estimated times are not official IMAT statistics; they are analytical classifications produced by IMAT Academy Research Lab. Candidate accuracy rates, option distributions and recorded solution times were not available.
2025 General Profile of Physics
The physical part creates 10% of the 60-factor paper. Although the number of questions is small, the five issues of six problems were coded as Solving, four were coded at DOK 3.
| Component | Average | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning Load | 2.83 / 5 | Accurate model, reference distance, direction and moving phases selection load |
| Calculation Load | 2.17 / 5 | The process is necessary; but the main difficulty is often the decision of the previous model from the process |
| Distractor Strength | 3.17 / 5 | False options are emitted to absolute/ relative speed, series/paralel, direction and distance discrimination |
Difficulty band distribution
Subject architecture and load density
Electricity and Electromagnetism is the most commonly represented main issue with two questions. Kinematics is located in Mechanics, Dynamics and Fluid Mechanics. This distribution shows that different modelling environments are measured instead of a single dominant section.
Main topic distribution
| Main topic | Question | Share | Avg. difficulty | Avg. time | DOK profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Electricity and Electromagnetism | 2 | 33.3% | 12.00 | 55.0 sec | 0/1/1 |
| Dynamics | 1 | 16.7% | 18.00 | 100.0 sec | 0/0/1 |
| Fluid Mechanics | 1 | 16.7% | 6.00 | 25.0 sec | 1/0/0 |
| Kinematics | 1 | 16.7% | 15.00 | 80.0 sec | 0/0/1 |
| Mechanics | 1 | 16.7% | 16.00 | 75.0 sec | 0/0/1 |
The averages of single question should not be read as a challenge of universal issue. Dynamics 18.00 average is based on Q59, Mechanics 16.00 average Q58.
Difficulty Profile
One of the six problems is Low, two Medium, three High bands. With Q59 18/25, not only part of physics, Research Lab is the highest ingredient of 2025 tests according to the data set.
| Question | Topic | Difficulty | Band | DOK | Estimated time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q59 | Dynamics | 18 / 25 | High | DOK 3 | 100 sec |
| Q58 | Mechanics | 16 / 25 | High | DOK 3 | 75 sec |
| Q55 | Kinematics | 15 / 25 | High | DOK 3 | 80 sec |
| Q56 | Electricity and Electromagnetism | 14 / 25 | Medium | DOK 3 | 70 sec |
| Q57 | Electricity and Electromagnetism | 10 / 25 | Medium | DOK 2 | 40 sec |
| Q60 | Fluid Mechanics | 6 / 25 | Low | DOK 1 | 25 sec |
DOK and depth of knowledge
Four questions are DOK 3 levels: Q55, Q56, Q58 and Q59. These questions require the application to a new problem context, multiple steps ranking and setting the physical model correctly. Q57 DOK 2 is coded as Q60 DOK 1.
| DOK | Question sayısı | Anlamı |
|---|---|---|
| DOK 1 | 1 | Direct information: hydrostatic pressure force is right on the surface |
| DOK 2 | 1 | Conceptual distinction: traditional current and electron movement |
| DOK 3 | 4 | Model selection, reference system and multi-step solution in case of new problem |
| DOK 4 | 0 | No |
Measured skills
Problem Solving is the primary skill in five questions. Information Recall is seen only as primary skills in Q60. This is one of the basic profile differences that separates the Physics from Biology and Chemistry.
| Beceri | Question sayısı | Yorum |
|---|---|---|
| Problem Solving | 5 | Relative movement, circuit reduction, gravite, dynamic and modeling questions |
| Information Recall | 1 | Direct recall the direction of hydrostatic pressure force |
Question formats and modeling structure
Calculation format is used in three questions. Daily- ProblemLife is represented by Scenario-Based and Conceptual Comparison. Direct Knowledge is seen only in Q60. Despite the format variety, the main source of the load is the choice of the previous model from the calculation.
Primary format distribution
Language, processing, reasoning and time profile
Average estimated time is 65 seconds and the median is 72.5 seconds. Q59 is estimated at 100 seconds, Q55 at 80 seconds, Q58 at 75 seconds and Q56 at 70 seconds. These are analyst estimates, not recorded candidate times.
Estimated-time bands
Reasoning Load is 2.83/5 and Distractor Strength is 3.17/5, both higher than Calculation Load at 2.17/5. This profile supports the conclusion that physics difficulty comes not only from calculation density, but also from selecting the correct model and reference frame.
Distractor architecture
Each of the six questions of physics is coded with different dominant distractor type: absolute vs relative speed, series/parallel reversal, current/electron direction reversal, height etc centre distance, friction/phase change and pressure-force distinguish.
This distractor analysis is not based on candidate option-selection data; structurally classifies the relationship of wrong options with the physical model.
Detailed review based on thread sets
On the Kinematics side, Q55 wants relative movement model. One of the absolute speeds is the basic error way to process directly; the candidate must control the closing speed and a minute closing distance together.
Electricity and Electromagnetism offer two different modeling environments. Q56 asks for two-stage series-paralel resistance reduction; Q57 measures to separate the direction of electron drift with serene current.
Mechanics and Dynamics clusters are single question but high load. The distance separation from the center with height from the surface in Q58 is decisive to install separate free-body model for fixed speed and acceleration motion phases in Q59.
Q60 in Fluid Mechanics is direct-knowledge item. The pressure can be skaler; but the pressure force is right on the surface. This question represents quick knowledge-check layer outside the model-heavy structure in the section.
Item-level analysis of six problems
The following spots explain why Q55-Q60 items create analytical load without republishing the full question text.
Q59
Newton's second law and friction
The highest graded load-bearing item in 2025 data set. Fixed speed and acceleration motion phases are individually installed; the friction must be retained in both phases. It is to miss out on the element of paddy friction or phase change.
Q58
Gravitation and inverse-square law
It is not enough to know the reverse square law; three Earth radius height from the surface means four radius distance from the center. The center distance mixedness with the coiled tricycle height.
Q55
Relative motion
It is not the absolute speeds of two vehicles in the context of everyday life, but the closing speed is decisive. Unit conversion and one-minute cover decision creates load together.
Q56
Series-parallel resistor networks
While Simetri is helpful, it is necessary to download two-stage: serial resistance in each arm, then parallel equivalent of 100 identical arm. The translated batch/paralel row of printing is reversed.
Q57
Current in metallic conductors
Short but common conceptual reversal targets. The metal wire is charged carrier electrons; the electron drift is the opposite of current direction.
Q60
Hydrostatic pressure
Single Low item of the department. It is sewn on force surface, which is applied to surfaces of the Durgun liquid. No modeling or multi-stage account request.
2025 How to Participate in physics?
2025 is a part that creates high selectiveness with minimal questions. In half High band, two DOK 3 levels. Therefore, the section cannot be explained only with formula know.
The character of the department is to be represented by physical condition: relative speed, circuit reduction, current direction, center distance, two phase force balance and pressure force, different model decisions from each other.
Preparation interests
For candidates prepared after 2025, this profile shows that the oral state is the primary practice of translating to the physical model. The correct distance, direction, reference frame and motion phase should be determined before proceeding to the delegation.
Series-paralel circuit reduction, electron drift separation with acute current, centre-to-centre distance in gravitation questions, friction and phase change in force model, pressure force separation with pressure in fluid Mechanics should be informed again.
These interests do not mean that the same question or rates will be released in the next test; it should be read as evidence-based preparation implication extracted from the 2025 data set.
Limitations and Quality Control
Analytical Difficulty is not the official IMAT metric. Estimated time values are not candidate times observed, but analyst estimates. Student response data, option-selection distribution and real distractor visibility are not available. One year and six questions are not enough to make the sample trend.
All queries are second-pass checked. Coding Confidence is recorded as High in all six issues. There is no Controversy Flag for physics. Full question texts were not republished, only short paraphrase and analytical comments were used.
