Introduction and purpose of work
One of the most frequently asked questions of students who think about preparing for IMAT is: only work to IMAT without entering a special preparation process to YKS, how can result in a performance in both IMAT and YKS?
The student profile, reviewed in this report, adopts IMAT as the basic working area; consists of candidates who are not conducting a structured preparation program for YKS, and have enough courses in the MEB high school program.
This study aims to review the relationship between the points and the correct number distributions of students prepared to IMAT and YKS exams and to review the performance indicators observed in the sample. Data was compiled from the 100 IMAT Academy user who entered YKS and IMAT exams in 2025. Personal information is anonymized in order to protect student privacy.
cognitive and structural comparison of YKS and IMAT exam architecture
YKS and IMAT carry out the common purpose of choosing medical faculties, candidates are divided into evaluation formats, test times, question types and scoring systems. It is important to understand the differences arising from a test system to another, to correctly interpret performance projections.
YKS requires wide range of topics, operational skills, detailed information usage and long-term mental durability. IMAT quickly understands academic English, extracted from the information given, significantly measures the skills of conceptual disability and decision-making in basic sciences. The difficulty profiles of two tests are not the same.
Scoring systems also differentiate the test strategies of candidates. The correct answer in IMAT when taking a four wrong right in YKS +1.5; the wrong answer -0,4; the empty answer is 0 points. For example, 45 accurate, 10 incorrect and 5 idle candidates take 63,5 points. Due to this structure, risk management plays an important role in IMAT performance, option screening and decision to leave the question blank when necessary.

IMAT and YKS performances of students prepared to IMAT
Students in this profile followed the MEB curriculum during high school education; but for YKS, they also did not participate in a structured preparation program. In turn, IMAT Academy’s content, trials and preparation platform conducted a test-specific IMAT study process.
During the preparatory process, students participated in trials at certain intervals on the IMAT Academy platform, in accordance with the English and official test format. The actual IMAT scores obtained at the end of the preparation were compiled and presented in the distribution of percentage in the table below.
The 100% student prepared with IMAT Academy’s test-specific resources and trials was included in the range of 75–80 points, 25% in the range of 70–74,99 points; 10% remained below 70 points. This distribution shows the performance levels that students in the research sample have reached in the IMAT preparation process. Results should not be automatically generalized to all IMAT candidates.
The possible performance of the same students in YKS should be assessed individually due to the scope of the issue of the exams and the differences of the question structure. A candidate that performs a strong performance in IMAT can exhibit different strong and weak directions due to the scope of the topic specific to YKS, Turkish question patterns and calculational density.
| Performance band | Points range | Student Rate | 100 students |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top-performing group | 75–80 points | %65 | 65 students |
| Middle success group | 70–74.99 points | %25 | 25 students |
| Low success group | 70 points | %10 | 10 students |
| Total | %100 | 100 students |
YKS section projection
Note: The following YKS net and ranking values are theoretical performance projections, not directly measured test results, based on curriculum and question type comparison.
| YKS section | Number of questions | The main difficulties the student will encounter | Possible advantages | Estimated performance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TYT | 120 questions | Student is not enough for the rules of Turkish language information and paragraphs specific to the test system in Turkey. Turkey’s history, history, regional geography and citizenship-based information questions, which are located in history and Geography. If you know basic concepts in TYT Science questions, it may lead to loss of time when questions are not accustomed to Turkish terminology. | With the overall problem-solving ability, numerical reasoning and basic mathematical infrastructure, TYT does not fail completely in math. Specifically basic problems can perform an average performance in proportion-orant, graphic interpretation and simple numerical reasoning questions. | 55–65 net score |
| AYT Mathematics | 40 questions | IMAT Math curriculum does not contain limit, derivative, integral, complex numbers, advanced logariation, arrays and detailed trigonometry issues in AYT Mathematics. The student is forced in functional problems that require a long solution especially in processing-weight questions and in trigonometric ingestion. Even if a part of the subjects recognizes conceptual level, YKS does not have the process practice requested. | Basic pockets have an infrastructure from international curriculum in equation solving, graphic reading, possibilities and basic function questions. However, this advantage may not be enough to compensate for the advanced and detailed structure of AYT Mathematics. | 10–15 net score |
| AYT Science | 40 questions | In biology, autonomic nervous system, plant tissues, plant physiology and details of human systems may experience incompleteness in Turkey's curriculum. Quantum numbers in chemistry can be forced in areas requiring processing and memorization, such as detailed organic reactions, balance and electrochemistry. In physics, IMAT may not solve many questions due to its more conceptual question structure, vector mechanical, electrical, magnetism and detailed formula applications. | Molecular biology has a certain knowledge of basic genetics, cell biology, basic chemical bonds and conceptual physics. It makes it easy to understand the scientific concepts that have worked with English sources. However, due to the difference of subject coverage and question technique, this information does not turn directly into the high AYT net. | 15–20 net score |
Theoretical YKS performance projection
| Indicator | Theoretical projection |
|---|---|
| TYT net score | 55–65 |
| AYT Mathematics net score | 10–15 |
| AYT Science net score | 15–20 |
| Theoretical YKS numerical ranking range | 200,000–300,000 |
| The possibility of medical medicine in Turkey | Very low compared to close-term success rankings |
| Dental medicine and high ranking engineering | Limited access for some programs |
| Based on foreign medical education j | Directly prepared to IMAT |
Conclusion
The following sorting and section access assessments are theoretical projections based on sample specifications, curriculum coverage and question type comparisons. According to this model, candidates are predicted that the YKS numerical ranking can be concentrated on about 200,000–300,000 bands. This range can be mostly insufficient for medical programs in the state universities compared with close-term success rankings; it can also limit access to some engineering programs that want to be a dentistry and high success sequence.
This projection does not mean students are insufficient in academic terms. Results indicate that two test systems require different information, skills and preparation models. Although the student is a strong candidate according to the IMAT curriculum, YKS’s subject coverage, detailed calculation load and some memorization may not be prepared enough in the fields of mainly.
The minimum conditions required to meet the results that the student will obtain from YKS should also be evaluated according to the current rules of the applicant country and university. However, being prepared directly to IMAT can provide an important academic advantage in the application process of the student to English medical programs in Italy.
This study suggests that student’s academic performance should not be evaluated only through a single test result. When the curriculum changes language, question structure and preparation model, the same student may vary significantly different results in different exams.
Limitations
- This study is based on a specific sampling consisting of 100 IMAT Academy users.
- Sampling may not represent all IMAT candidates or all YKS students.
- While IMAT results are based on actual test data, YKS nets are made of theoretical projections based on ranking range and program access assessments, not directly measured results, curriculum and question type comparisons.
- Therefore, the findings should not be interpreted as causative evidence or individual success guarantee.

FAQ
How can only take a result in the student prepared to IMAT?
YKS nets on this page are manufactured from theoretical projections based on the curriculum and question type comparisons, not directly measured results. According to the model, candidates are predicted that the YKS numerical ranking can be concentrated on about 200,000–300,000 bands.
Does this projection mean that the student is unfamiliar?
No. Results indicate that two test systems require different information, skills and preparation models. Although the student is a strong candidate according to the IMAT curriculum, YKS’s subject coverage, detailed calculation load and some memorization may not be prepared enough in the fields of mainly.
