IMAT 2026 Application Calendar
The IMAT application process does not consist of a single date. National exam, Universitaly, university portals, scholarship, local ranking, enrollment and payment windows are separate calendars.

IMAT national exam date
Overview
Non-EU candidates follow at least four calendars simultaneously: MUR/Universitaly national process, target university's admission process, consulate/visa process and regional scholarship-fee calendar.
Just because a date has been announced does not mean that other steps are also clear. Each date should be recorded by stating which institution and transaction it is valid for.
2026 IMAT national exam date
IMAT application calendar and the MUR/Universitaly distinction
MUR
Publishes national admission rules, exam dates and the relevant decrees.
Universitaly
The national portal used for IMAT registration, university choice and visa-related pre-enrolment.
University
May also operate its own application portal, diploma evaluation, ranking and enrolment calendar.
MUR has officially confirmed the IMAT 2026 registration dates: registration opens on 26 August 2026 and closes on 9 September 2026 at 15:00 (GMT+2). For visa pre-enrolment and university-specific steps, see the Pre-Enrollment Guide.
Why are university application dates different?
Universities may open separate windows for foreign diploma evaluation, B2/MOI control, pre-application, local ranking inclusion or their own student information system.
For example, the Esse3 inclusion step in Cagliari is after IMAT; Messina and Marche, on the other hand, use separate university streams alongside the national process. Therefore, it is not enough to plan only according to the exam date.
Why might scholarship dates close before the exam?
Regional right-to-study institutions evaluate thousands of students in the same academic calendar. Application windows do not have to wait for the Medicine admission result.
Confirmed 2026/27 scholarship/hostel dates for Catania, Parma and Cagliari close before the IMAT exam on 29 September. The candidate must prepare ISEE Parificato documents without waiting for the acceptance result. For details, see the Medical Scholarships in Italy guide.
Examples of critical university deadlines
| University | Process | Date/status | Critical note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Catania | ERSU Catania scholarship, accommodation and meals | 10 August 2026, 14:00 | This closes before IMAT; B2/MOI and admission steps are tracked separately. |
| Parma | ER.GO scholarship and accommodation | 24 August 2026, 07:00 | ESSE3, Universitaly and ER.GO are separate systems. |
| Cagliari | ERSU Cagliari scholarship and accommodation | 28 August 2026, 13:00 | Inclusion in the Esse3 local ranking is also required after IMAT. |
| Messina | UniME + Universitaly | Check the current call | Neither of the two parallel application channels should be omitted. |
| Marche | UNIVPM pre-evaluation + Universitaly | Check the current call | Pre-evaluation is not the same as national pre-enrollment. |
| Milano-Bicocca | Programme-specific call, DSU and BISP | Separate calendars | Admission, DSU accommodation/scholarship and BISP are separate processes. |
| Tor Vergata Rome | DiSCo Lazio | Current DiSCo call | The scholarship window may close before the final admission result. |
| Vanvitelli | ADISURC Campania | Check the current call | The scholarship deadline is independent of the IMAT and university enrolment process. |
Where no specific date is shown, we do not invent a 2026/27 deadline. Always follow the current university or regional call.

- Confusing the September 29 exam date with the September 9 registration deadline
- Postponing the scholarship application until the IMAT result
- Assuming Universitaly replaces the university-specific portal
- Not following the local ranking or enrollment window on the results page
- Copying previous year quotas and deadlines for 2026/27
- Mistaking ISEE Parificato, diploma recognition and visa documents as the same file
