University of Cagliari — English Medical Program

The University of Cagliari (UniCa), within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, offers the Medicine and Surgery English-taught program. Also known as CdLMCU-MED-ENG, the program is in the LM-41 class, is a six-year single-cycle Laurea Magistrale, and has a total of 360 ECTS; the admission exam is IMAT.

The program's training center is the Cittadella Universitaria di Monserrato. Clinical training is conducted within the context of the Policlinico Universitario, AOU Cagliari, and the Monserrato hospital network. There is not more than one English-language medical campus in Cagliari; although English Medicine and Surgery and Italian-taught Medicina e Chirurgia have different quotas and admission processes, they share the faculty and clinical infrastructure.

The English program was opened in the 2024/2025 term. The safest official quota reference is this opening year: a total of 100 places, consisting of 80 EU/equated, 18 Non-EU abroad, and 2 Marco Polo. It is not correct to assume the same distribution for 2025/2026 and 2026/2027; the current MUR/UniCa announcement should be checked separately.

The EU and Non-EU quota/cut-off columns show the official ranking data published in the relevant years. Past cut-off values do not guarantee acceptance for future periods.

The Cagliari English Medicine and Surgery program was opened in 2024/2025. The official opening quota is a total of 100, consisting of 80 EU/equated + 18 Non-EU abroad + 2 Marco Polo.

The official quota distribution for 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 has not been verified in the research file. The figures for 2024/2025 were not copied to these years, and the quota fields were left empty. It should be updated additionally when the current MUR/UniCa decision is published.

The cut-off values of 54.2 for 2025 and 56.5 for 2024 come from the pre-existing historical IMAT database of this site. These are not scores re-verified from the official final UniCa ranking PDF during this study. The 2025 cut-off record does not grant the authority to accept the unverified 2025 quota as 20 or any other number.

Due to the short history of the program, the cut-off depth is limited. These values do not constitute a guarantee, target score, or admission commitment for next year.

Program and training structure

Medicine and Surgery is a six-year, 360 CFU single-cycle degree program in the LM-41 class. The curriculum gradually progresses from basic sciences to clinical practices and uses the Monserrato campus together with the hospital network.

In the official regulation, at least 70% attendance is required for the total of face-to-face classes as well as for each specific module/professional activity. If the attendance requirement is not met, the right to take the relevant final assessment may be affected.

TPVES in the sixth year includes a total of 15 CFU/375 hours of practical assessment activities in the fields of General Surgery, General Medicine, and Internal Medicine.

OFA/remedial obligations may be assigned to students whose preparation in IMAT science is found insufficient. UniCa can provide this support through CISIA MOOC and in-year remedial activities; the results and progress conditions should be monitored through the current course regulations.

Italian is not a prerequisite for admission. However, practical Italian is required for patient communication during the clinical years; the university's offering of Italian courses for international students from A1 to B2 supports this preparation. A fixed 'B2 by the third year' threshold, not explicitly stated in the current regulations, is not used in this guide.

Tuition Fee

€156 only represents the level of regional tax + stamp duty in the low-income/No-Tax scenario; it is not an automatic annual total for every student coming from Turkey.

Turkey is not directly on the exemption list for the Very Poor Countries mentioned in the research. If a Turkish applicant wants a tuition reduction, they must prepare family income and asset documents for the ISEE Parificato through official translation, apostille/legalization, and the authorized CAF process.

If foreign financial documents are not submitted, the student may be charged at the highest contribution band, and the amount can rise up to €3,447.10. The 2026/2027 fee regulation should also be checked.

In the study, a three-installment payment system and the October, March, June periods are observed; however, exact dates should be checked from the current academic year vademecum.

2026/2027

2025/2026

UniCa uses the ISEE-based system called Contribuzione studentesca. For eligible first-year students, if the ISEE is €24,335.11 or below, the base tuition can be waived; the student pays about €140 regional tax and €16 stamp duty. If the ISEE/ISEE Parificato is not provided or the highest band is applied, the fee can reach €3,447.10.

ERSU Cagliari scholarship, dormitory, and cafeteria applications

Cagliari is in Sardinia and the correct regional student rights institution is ERSU Cagliari. ERSU can provide cash scholarships, student dormitory, and cafeteria benefits; eligibility depends on economic situation, document compliance, and subsequent merit conditions.

The 2026/2027 scholarship and housing applications open on July 15, 2026, and close together on August 28, 2026, at 13:00. Since this date comes before the IMAT results, the candidate may have to apply as a prospective student without knowing their admission status.

The Turkish applicant should prepare family income, real estate, bank, and household information early; after official translation and apostille/legalization, they must complete the relevant CAF/CAF CGN and ISEE Parificato process.

For the continuation of the first-year scholarship and the second payment, the research specifies the condition of at least 20 CFUs by August 10, 2027. Failure to meet the condition may result in the loss of support or housing rights and the repayment of certain provided amounts; the current ERSU call details should also be read.

ERSU support is not automatic or guaranteed. The university tuition reduction process and the ERSU scholarship/dormitory application should be evaluated separately.

Non-EU application roadmap

  1. 1

    Universitaly pre-enrollment and IMAT registration

Non-EU candidate nationals subject to a visa complete the pre-registration and IMAT registration steps through Universitaly. The 2026/2027 registration and pre-enrollment window should be checked from the latest MUR/Universitaly announcement.

  2. 2

    ERSU Cagliari applicationJuly 15–August 28, 2026, 1:00 PM

Economic documents for scholarships and housing are prepared through Portale dello Studente without waiting for the IMAT result.

  3. 3

    IMAT national examSeptember 29, 2026

The 2026 IMAT national exam date according to the MUR calendar is September 29, 2026.

  4. 4

UniCa/Esse3 local merit ranking inclusion — kritik

Non-EU candidates residing outside of Italy must also complete the application to be included in the Cagliari local merit ranking via Esse3 after IMAT. Registration on Universitaly alone is not sufficient. The exact date for 2026/2027 should be checked on the current UniCa notice.

  5. 5

    Check personal data match

It is critical that the name, surname, tax number, and email information on Universitaly and Esse3 are exactly matching in order to correctly match the IMAT score with the candidate.

  6. 6

    Local ranking and enrollment

Non-EU abroad candidates should follow UniCa's local ranking and the short final registration window; 2026/2027 dates should be checked from the updated official call.

Diploma Compatibility and Required Documents

  • Valid passport or identity document.
  • A high school diploma showing at least 12 years of education and eligibility for higher education access.
  • Official Italian/English translation of the diploma and necessary academic documents.
  • Consular legalization or Hague Apostille when necessary.
  • Declaration of Value (DoV) or CIMEA Statement of Comparability/Verification.
  • Universitaly pre-enrollment application summary and student visa documents.
  • For Esse3 local merit ranking inclusion, passport and translated/certified copies of the diploma.
  • For candidates coming from Turkey, the context of YKS showing that the high school diploma grants access to higher education in Turkey should be prepared together with DoV/CIMEA and consular documents; current requirements should be checked from official documents.
  • If tuition reduction and ERSU rights are requested, with translated, apostilled/legalized family income and asset documents along with ISEE Certificate.

Ranking and registration process

  1. 1

    EU/equated national ranking

EU candidates and Non-EU candidates legally residing in Italy are subject to the national ranking principle for the 80-person common pool in the 2024/2025 opening period.

  2. 2

    Non-EU abroad local Cagliari ranking

Non-EU candidates residing outside Italy are evaluated in a separate UniCa local ranking. The 2024/2025 opening quota for this pool is 18 people; subsequent years must be verified separately.

  3. 3

    Esse3 inclusion application

Entering IMAT and completing the Universitaly process does not automatically provide participation in the Cagliari local ranking. If the candidate does not apply for inclusion through Esse3 after IMAT, there is a risk that they will not be considered on the local list even if they have a score.

  4. 4

    Data and document matching

The identity information of Universitaly and Esse3 must be the same, passport/diploma PDFs must be uploaded correctly, and the local deadline must not be missed.

Important considerations

  • The 2024/2025 quota should not be copied to the following years; the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 distributions should be verified from the current MUR/UniCa announcement.
  • The most critical administrative risk for a non-EU abroad candidate is missing the Esse3 local merit ranking inclusion step. Universitaly and IMAT alone do not ensure participation in the Cagliari local list.
  • 156 € is only the applicable No-Tax/minimum scenario; it is not the automatic annual fee for a Turkish student. If there is no ISEE Parificato, a maximum risk of 3,447.10 € may arise.
  • The ERSU Cagliari scholarship and housing deadline is August 28, 2026, at 13:00 and it comes before the IMAT result.
  • The English certificate does not appear as an independent prerequisite for IMAT/admission ranking; the UNICLA evaluation after registration and the B2 progress obligation are separate processes.
  • The 2026 IMAT national exam date is September 29, 2026; the IMAT registration window has been announced as August 26–September 9, 2026, 15:00 GMT+2; Universitaly/pre-enrollment, Esse3 local ranking, and enrollment dates should also be followed separately.

Assessment for Turkish students

Editorial evaluation

The most important feature of Cagliari for a Turkish applicant is the double portal risk. After completing the visa/IMAT procedures through Universitaly, a separate application for Esse3 local merit ranking inclusion must be made after the IMAT. If this step is skipped, even a high IMAT score may not be enough to enter Cagliari's Non-EU local list.

Quota planning should only be based on the 2024/2025 opening year: 18 Non-EU abroad places have been confirmed. The site's 2025 historical cutoff data does not mean that the 2025 quota is also 18 or 20; the current official number should be awaited.

In financial planning, No-Tax and maximum risk should be considered together. With ISEE Parificato, an eligible student can drop to approximately €156 in tax/stamp fees; a candidate who does not provide documents can be charged up to €3,447.10. The same financial documents are also critical for the ERSU scholarship and housing, although applications are separate processes.

YKS is part of the diploma equivalency package indicating that a Turkish high school diploma grants access to higher education in Turkey. No specific YKS score threshold should be claimed; the results document, diploma, DoV/CIMEA, and consular procedures should be prepared together.
