Sapienza University of Rome (Sapienza University of Rome)

Sapienza University of Rome offers the Medicine and Surgery program taught in English under its official administrative name as the "F" track / Medicina e chirurgia "F" (course code 33454, exam/prova code 14877). The program is classified under LM-41, is a six-year single-cycle Master's Degree, and separates the English-taught international medical cohort from Sapienza's other Italian-taught medical tracks (A, B, C, D, E, and HT).

"The letter 'F' does not signify a separate city or campus; it is an official channel (canale) label used within Sapienza's administrative system to indicate the medical cohort conducted in English — it is the English track of the same LM-41 degree. When evaluating the program, not only the IMAT cut-off but also the 45 EU/13 Non-EU quotas, Sapienza's specific fixed fee system (Band B/700 € for Turkey), DiSCo Lazio scholarship, MoveIN pre-assessment, Universitaly pre-enrollment, document eligibility, and the YKS context should all be considered together."

The EU and Non-EU quota/cut-off columns show the official ranking data published in the relevant years. Past cut-off values do not guarantee acceptance for future periods.

The quota for 2025/2026 has been verified through direct examination of the official "Bando 14877_i.pdf" document (D.R. n. 2438/2025): 45 EU/Italy-resident + 13 standard Non-EU (total 58) for Medicine and Surgery "F". No separate quota has been reported for the English track of Marco Polo (0); the Marco Polo program is structurally linked to the Italian-taught medical track.

These 45/13/0/58 figures reflect the 2025/2026 cycle, which is the most recent official quota. As of the date this page was prepared, the official Band for 2026/2027 has not yet been published; instead of leaving the quota blank, the 2025/2026 figures are shown as the current basic reference (baseline) and will be updated once the 2026/2027 MUR/Sapienza decree is published.

The EU/Marco Polo distinction for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 periods is not shown on this page; for these two years, only the site's own verified Non-EU quota (13) and cut-off data have been used.

EU and Non-EU rankings operate on different mathematical logics: Non-EU candidates (who require a visa and live abroad) compete directly for Sapienza's local quota of 13; EU/Italy-resident candidates, on the other hand, are subject to a scorrimento (sliding ranking) system at the national level, based on the pool of candidates across the entire country.

Sapienza does not publish a publicly accessible PDF containing the final/closing cut-off scores; official rankings are hosted on CINECA/Universitaly in a candidate-specific, login-protected area. Therefore, the cut-off values are based on this site's own verified historical data (imatCutoffs); third-party cut-off sources or estimated ranking positions have not been used.

Cut-off values reflect past years; they do not constitute a guarantee or a target score commitment for the upcoming academic year.

Program and training structure

The Medicine and Surgery 'F' track (Medicina e chirurgia 'F') is a six-year single-cycle Master's Degree program in the LM-41 class, conducted entirely in English and based on a total of 360 CFU/ECTS (an average of 60 CFU per year). The program is conducted under the joint administration of the Faculties of Pharmacy and Medicine, Medicine and Dentistry, and Medicine and Psychology.

Within the framework of clinical education, 60 CFUs are allocated to practical/clinical activities; of these, 15 CFUs are applied as Tirocinio Pratico Valutativo (TPV — practical-evaluative internship) in the fifth and sixth years, covering one month in the surgical department, one month in the internal medicine department, and one month in general practice (only in the sixth year). Completion of the TPV allows the graduation exam to also serve as the State Exam according to Italian legislation (Decreto-Legge n. 18/2020); in other words, graduates acquire the right to practice medicine in Italy immediately. Additionally, there is an 8 CFU Tirocinio a Scelta dello Studente (TSS — student-selected internship).

Attendance to classes, practicals, and ADEs (Attività Didattica Elettiva — elective educational activities) is mandatory; completion of the ADEs is required for earning credits and for the graduation thesis process.

The OFA (Obbligo Formativo Aggiuntivo / additional educational obligation) system is applied to candidates in IMAT whose Biology and/or Chemistry sub-scores fall below a certain threshold and who are ranked on the general list. According to the official announcement, the thresholds are as follows: for Biology, 8.6 out of a maximum of 34.5 points; for Chemistry, 5.6 out of a maximum of 22.5 points (if the total score is below 30). OFA can be fulfilled by passing the curriculum exam of the relevant course within the first year or by passing a special recovery exam organized by the faculty. If OFA is not fulfilled within the first year, the student cannot take exams for the second year starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.

Italian is not required as an official entry requirement for the program conducted in English; however, in the later years, communicating with patients in clinical practice requires knowledge of Italian. Sapienza offers free, in-person Italian language and culture courses to facilitate the clinical and social integration of international medical students.

Tuition Fee

Turkey is in Band B, which Sapienza applies for students with international income; therefore, the annual tuition fee for Turkish students is a fixed and verified amount of €700 (much lower than €1,500 for Band C).

Sapienza does not accept the ISEE Parificato for students with foreign income in order to reduce tuition fees; Turkish applicants should not attempt to submit this document to Sapienza — the fee is already determined automatically and fixed according to the country of origin.

The fee of €700 is divided into three: €210 (1st installment + €140 regional tax + €16 stamp duty), €245 (2nd installment), and €245 (3rd installment).

ISEEUP (foreign income certificate) is not required to reduce the Sapienza tuition fee; it should only be prepared for the DiSCo Lazio regional scholarship application (see the Scholarship section). These two processes are completely separate and should not be confused.

The exact installment dates depend on the registration (immatricolazione) calendar of the relevant academic year and are determined after the IMAT ranking is published; this page does not show an officially published installment date for 2026/2027 as a definite date.

2025/2026

Sapienza applies a fixed contribution system called the Standard Registration Fee / Flat-Rate Contribution for international students generating income abroad. According to the decision of the Sapienza Board of Directors dated May 30, 2023, students with income abroad cannot submit ISEE Parificato to reduce tuition fees; instead, a contribution fee is applied divided into three fixed bands according to the GDP and Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) value of the student's country of origin: Band A (developing countries) €300, Band B €700, Band C (developed economies) €1,500. Turkey is officially listed in Band B; therefore, the annual fixed tuition fee for Turkish students is €700. This amount is paid in three installments: €210 (1st installment, including €140 regional tax and €16 stamp duty), €245 (2nd installment), and €245 (3rd installment). Payments are made via the PagoPA system. In case of late payment, a penalty of €65 is applied; if the delay exceeds 60 days, this penalty increases to €130.

Scholarship and dormitory applications

The main scholarship and student rights institution in the Rome area is DiSCo Lazio (Ente Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio e alla Conoscenza). Under the "Bando Diritto allo Studio" (Right to Study Call for Applications), the institution provides rights such as scholarships, accommodation (dormitory), meal services (canteen), and cash support together; the scope may vary according to the call text published each year.

The official call has been published for the 2026/2027 term: the application portal opens on June 10, 2026; the deadline for filling out and submitting the Stage 1 application is July 22, 2026, at 12:00. It is not required that enrollment (immatricolazione) be finalized at the time of application; however, actual registration at the university must be completed by February 10, 2027, at the latest.

Critical planning point: The DiSCo Lazio Phase 1 deadline (July 22, 2026) comes before the IMAT exam. This means that Turkish students have to prepare their documents and complete their applications during the summer, before knowing whether they have secured a place in the IMAT.

The DiSCo Lazio application is an entirely separate administrative process from Sapienza's tuition fees. While Sapienza does not accept the ISEE Parificato for students with foreign income, DiSCo Lazio absolutely requires the ISEE Universitario Parificato (ISEEUP) document for scholarship, accommodation, and meal benefits; self-certification is not accepted. This document must be calculated through a recognized CAF (Centro di Assistenza Fiscale), showing the family's gross income for 2024 and their assets as of December 31, 2024.

Therefore, Turkish students, even if they do not need ISEEUP for the Sapienza tuition fee, must have their families' 2024 financial documents translated and legalized and start this process before the IMAT exam, without knowing the result, if they want to apply for the DiSCo Lazio scholarship.

The scholarship is not an absolute right; the application is subject to DiSCo Lazio's approval and the call conditions for the relevant year. This information is based on the officially published dates for the 2026/2027 period.

Non-EU application roadmap

  1. 1

    MoveIN pre-selectionNon-EU (visa required): December 22, 2025 – May 15, 2026 · EU/equivalent: until July 31, 2026

In Sapienza's international student application process, a pre-selection stage is carried out through the platform called MoveIN. In this stage, the candidate uploads identity/diploma documents and the required paperwork (including the B2 English proficiency certificate) and undergoes the university's preliminary eligibility assessment. For the 2026/2027 period, the window for Non-EU (visa-requiring) candidates opened on December 22, 2025, and closes on May 15, 2026 — this is a critical early bottleneck that comes well before the IMAT exam. For candidates with EU/equivalent status, this window remains open until July 31, 2026.

  2. 2

    Universitaly pre-enrollment30 Haziran 2026

Candidates requiring a visa who have received pre-acceptance at MoveIN must complete the pre-enrollment process through the national Universitaly portal. The deadline for the 2026/2027 term is June 30, 2026. Missing this date seriously jeopardizes the visa process regardless of subsequent IMAT performance; even if documents are missing, the application must be entered into the system by this date.

  3. 3

Don't confuse the processes: MoveIN, Universitaly, and IMAT are separate systems

MoveIN pre-selection, Universitaly pre-enrollment, and IMAT exam registration are three separate processes and have separate schedules. According to the MUR calendar, the 2026 IMAT national exam date is September 29, 2026. The IMAT registration window (August 26–September 9, 2026, 15:00 GMT+2), ranking publication, and Sapienza local immatricolazione dates should be checked separately from the latest MUR/Sapienza announcements.

Diploma Compatibility and Required Documents

  • Valid passport or official identification document — must remain valid throughout the visa processing window.
  • High school diploma — It must be a diploma that provides the right to access higher education in Turkey; this condition is related to the context of YKS (see the section on Turkish students below).
  • Documents showing the completion of 12 years of formal education are a national requirement for admission to universities in Italy.
  • Academic transcript that can be requested when necessary.
  • Official translation, legalized or apostilled documents (Apostille for Turkey) — are required for foreign documents to be recognized by Italian authorities.
  • Declaration of Value (DoV) — issued by the authorized Italian Diplomatic Representation; or CIMEA Statement of Comparability/Verification — which one is required may vary depending on the application process.
  • Universitaly pre-enrollment receipt — must be completed by June 30, 2026, for Non-EU candidates requiring a visa.
  • Study visa/residence permit documents for non-EU candidates should be planned together with the MoveIN pre-selection and Universitaly process.
  • Codice Fiscale (tax identification number) — is required for general registration procedures and access to the DiSCo Lazio portal.
  • B2 level English proficiency certificate — may be requested during the MoveIN pre-assessment/application phase; accepted certificates and current requirements should be checked on the Sapienza admissions page. This does not replace the IMAT exam.
  • For candidates applying from Turkey, the high school diploma must grant access to higher education in Turkey. Therefore, YKS, diploma eligibility, DoV/CIMEA, and consular documents should be evaluated together.

Official Communication and Application Channels

HELLO - International Student Help Desk: hello@uniroma1.it / studentistranieri@uniroma1.it — initial guidance, MoveIN pre-selection, visa processes, document evaluation, Universitaly verification.

Administrative office for Medicine and Dentistry students: segrstudenti.medicina@uniroma1.it — post-registration procedures, tuition fee creation, course schedule and ECTS procedures.

DiSCo Lazio: laziodisco.it — it is the official contact institution for applications regarding scholarships, accommodation, and student rights; it is independent from Sapienza, a separate regional institution.

Important considerations

  • Non-EU quota is limited — officially confirmed 13 people for 2025/2026 (total quota 58: 45 EU/Italy-resident + 13 Non-EU + 0 Marco Polo); the level of competition is an important factor for applications.
  • The tuition fee is fixed and verified for Turkey: €700/year (Band B). However, this amount only covers Sapienza's own tuition fee; the DiSCo Lazio regional scholarship is a separate process and is not guaranteed.
  • The MoveIN preliminary assessment deadline (May 15, 2026, Non-EU) and the Universitaly pre-enrollment deadline (June 30, 2026) both occur before the IMAT exam; they create a timing-sensitive application schedule.
  • The deadline for DiSCo Lazio Phase 1 (July 22, 2026) comes before IMAT and requires a separate ISEEUP document; this document is not used for the Sapienza tuition fee.
  • The 12-year formal education requirement is a national requirement for access to higher education in Italy and should be considered in the context of YKS for Turkish candidates.
  • The 2026 IMAT national exam date is September 29, 2026. The IMAT registration window (August 26–September 9, 2026, 15:00 GMT+2) and the Sapienza local registration (immatricolazione) deadline should also be checked from the latest MUR/Sapienza announcements.

Assessment for Turkish students

Editorial evaluation

For candidates applying from Turkey, the issue is not only the IMAT score. Universities in Italy check whether the foreign high school diploma grants access to higher education in the country where it was issued; in the context of Turkey, this is related to the YKS process. Therefore, the YKS, diploma eligibility, DoV/CIMEA, and consular documents should be evaluated together.

Sapienza's official quota for 2025/2026 has been confirmed: 45 EU/Italy-resident + 13 standard Non-EU + 0 Marco Polo (total 58). Turkish candidates compete within the standard Non-EU quota, together with applicants residing abroad who require a visa, for the 13-person local pool; this limited quota is an important competitive factor for applications.

There is a critical advantage regarding tuition fees: Sapienza does not accept ISEE Parificato for students with foreign income and instead applies a fixed country-based contribution. Turkey falls into Band B category, and therefore the annual tuition fee is fixed at €700 (significantly lower than Band C's €1,500). Turkish applicants should not try to submit ISEE Parificato to Sapienza; the fee is already automatically and fixedly determined.

There are three dates that are sensitive in terms of timing, and all three occur before the IMAT exam: MoveIN pre-assessment (for Non-EU, May 15, 2026), Universitaly pre-enrollment (June 30, 2026), and the DiSCo Lazio Phase 1 scholarship application (July 22, 2026). Turkish candidates must complete or start all three processes before knowing their IMAT results.

Turkish students who want to apply for the DiSCo Lazio scholarship should have their families convert their 2024 financial documents into ISEEUP through CAF and have them translated/legalized, even if it is not required for the Sapienza tuition fee; DiSCo does not accept self-declaration. These two processes (Sapienza tuition fee and DiSCo scholarship) are completely independent from each other and should not be confused.

There are two different processes regarding English proficiency: (1) The IMAT band's tie-break rule defines the language certificate as a self-declared criterion that comes into play only in the case of tied scores, after all other criteria (subject-based score ranking) have been exhausted; (2) In Sapienza's MoveIN pre-evaluation/application process, a B2 level English certificate may be required, and this can function as an administrative prerequisite for the application to be verified before the IMAT. Turkish candidates should distinguish between these two processes and, as a precaution, prepare at least a B2 level certificate early; current requirements should be checked on the Sapienza admissions page.

The cut-off assessment on this page is based on the available site data (2023/2024: 50.8; 2024/2025: 73.4; 2025/2026: 65.8). EU and Non-EU rankings operate under different logics: Non-EU candidates compete only for Sapienza's 13 local quota, while EU/Italy-resident candidates are subject to a nationally scaled scorrimento system. Ranking position data is not shown because it has not been verified with a reliable source.

Candidates considering English medicine in Rome should compare Sapienza with the Tor Vergata Rome program. The Tirana track of Tor Vergata, however, should not be included in this Rome comparison as it has a completely different country, visa, and fee reality, and it should be carefully distinguished from the Tor Vergata Tirana page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sapienza Medicine and Surgery 'F' in English?

Yes. Sapienza Università di Roma runs the "F" track of the Medicine and Surgery program (Medicina e chirurgia "F", course code 33454, exam code 14877) entirely in English. The program is a six-year, 360 CFU single-cycle Master's Degree in the LM-41 class.

What does "F" mean?

"F" is an official channel (canale) label used in Sapienza's administrative system to indicate the medicine cohort taught in English; it is not a separate city, campus, or a different university. Sapienza's Italian-language medicine tracks (A, B, C, D, E) and the HT (High Technology) track are outside the scope of this page and have an entirely different curriculum.

What is the Non-EU quota for Sapienza?

It has been verified through direct examination of the official "Band 14877_i.pdf" document for 2025/2026: 45 EU/Italy-resident + 13 standard Non-EU + 0 Marco Polo (total 58). This is the most recent official quota cycle; the official figures for 2026/2027 have not yet been published.

Is there a Marco Polo quota?

No. For this English-taught track, the official Marco Polo quota is zero; the Marco Polo program is structurally linked to the Italian-taught medical track.

What is the tuition fee for Turkish students at Sapienza?

700 € / year. Sapienza does not accept the ISEE Parificato for students with foreign income; instead, it applies a fixed contribution fee according to the student's country of origin (Band A: 300 € · Band B: 700 € · Band C: 1,500 €). Turkey is officially listed in Band B. The fee is divided into three payments: 210 € (1st installment + 140 € regional tax + 16 € stamp duty), 245 € (2nd installment), and 245 € (3rd installment).

Does ISEEUP reduce the Sapienza fee?

No. ISEEUP (foreign income certificate) cannot be used to reduce Sapienza's tuition fee; Sapienza applies a fixed country band fee directly to students with foreign income. ISEEUP is only required for the DiSCo Lazio regional scholarship application — these two processes are completely separate.

Is the DiSCo Lazio scholarship important for Turkish students?

Yes, but it is a process separate from Sapienza's tuition fees. The deadline for Phase 1 applications for 2026/2027 is July 22, 2026, at 12:00, and this date is before the IMAT exam. The ISEEUP document must be prepared through CAF for the application; self-declaration is not accepted. The scholarship is not a guaranteed right.

What is MoveIN pre-selection and when does it close?

MoveIN is a pre-selection platform used by Sapienza for international student applications. The window for Non-EU candidates requiring a visa for the 2026/2027 term closes on May 15, 2026; this is a critical early date that comes long before the IMAT exam. The window for candidates with EU/equivalent status remains open until July 31, 2026.

Are Universitaly pre-enrollment and MoveIN the same thing?

No. MoveIN is Sapienza's own pre-assessment platform; pre-enrollment through Universitaly is a separate, national-level registration process and triggers visa procedures. The deadline for Universitaly for 2026/2027 is June 30, 2026. These two processes should not be confused and must be followed separately.

What is the 2026 IMAT date?

The date of the 2026 IMAT national exam is September 29, 2026, according to the MUR calendar. The IMAT registration window (August 26–September 9, 2026, 15:00 GMT+2), ranking publication, and Sapienza local enrollment dates should also be checked from the latest official announcements.

Is YKS required for Sapienza?

Sapienza does not officially mention the 'YKS' name directly, but generally requires that the diploma grants the right to enter university in the country where it was issued. For Turkish candidates, this is a context associated with the YKS; which YKS document or score type is required should be further verified through the consulate and CIMEA/DoV during the application process. This page does not present any specific score type or document format as a definitive requirement.

Is an English certificate required at Sapienza?

In Sapienza's MoveIN pre-evaluation/application process, an English proficiency certificate at B2 level may be required for programs conducted in English. This does not replace the IMAT score; IMAT is still the main entrance exam. Accepted documents, exemptions, and current requirements should be checked each year on the Sapienza admissions page.

This guide is based on official Sapienza (uniroma1.it / corsidilaurea.uniroma1.it) and DiSCo Lazio (laziodisco.it) sources, as well as the Bando 14877_i.pdf and fee pages. The 2026 IMAT national exam date is September 29, 2026, according to the MUR calendar; the IMAT registration window (August 26–September 9, 2026, 15:00 GMT+2) and Sapienza local immatricolazione dates will be updated separately when new announcements are published.
