The center is clear: the difficulty in the section is not from the arithmetic perception; the logical breakthrough came from the constraint management and the obligation to represent the given relations correctly.
Scope, data source and methodology
The analysis covers the five Logical Reasoning questions from Q05 to Q09. Reading Skills questions are excluded from this page and addressed in a separate report.
Each question was coded by main topic, subtopic, format, primary skill, DOK, language load, calculation load, reasoning load, distractor strength, estimated time and final classification.
Methodological boundary
Difficulty scores, distractor strength and estimated times are not official IMAT statistics. They are analytical classifications produced by IMAT Academy Research Lab.
2025 General profile of Logical Reasoning section
Part two short form reasoning questions consist of two longer constraint/relational problem and a representative-conversion question. That’s why the page should not only be “logic questions”; you should read the form inference + qualificationtraint solving + representation conversion profile.
| Component | Average | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning Load | 3.00 / 5 | Removes 4/5 levels in Q07 and Q08; the main load is restricted management. |
| Distractor Strength | 2.80 / 5 | False options are often installed on a single rule breach or invalid interest. |
| Calculation Load | 1.20 / 5 | Only on the top of the Q09 baseline; the section is not arithmetic. |
| Language Load | Q07-Q08: 3 / 5 | Not long pass; it comes from right-sol, exclusion and reference tracking. |
Difficulty band distribution
Subject architecture and load density
Formal Logic is the most commonly represented area with two questions. Relational Logic is located in Constraint Satisfaction and Quantitative Reasoning. The averages of these single question clusters are not like the natural difficulty of the topic; it should be read as the load of the respective 2025 item.
Main topic distribution
| Main topic | Item | Share | Avg. difficulty | Avg. time | DOK profile |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Formal Logic | 2 | 40.0% | 9.50 | 45 sec | 2 DOK2 / 0 DOK3 |

| Quantitative Reasoning | 1 | 20.0% | 10.00 | 55 sec | 1 DOK2 / 0 DOK3 |
Challenge distribution and question-based profile
Q07 is the only High question of the section with 15/25. In the upper limit of the Medium band with Q08 14/25, Q06 11/25, Q09 10/25 and Q05 8/25 level.
| Item | News | Subtopic | Difficulty | Band | DOK | Estimated time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Knowledge depth and measured skills
Q05, Q06 and Q09 DOK 2; Q07 and Q08 DOK 3. Formal Logic appears as an open skill, but the most severe analytical demand occurs during the implementation of logic rules in restricted problem environments.
| DOK | Number of questions | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| DOK 2 | 3 | Q05, Q06 and Q09: standard extraction or routine representation conversion |
| DOK 3 | 2 | Q07 and Q08: protection of multiple restricted simultaneously |
| DOK 4 | 0 | No |
| Skill | Number of questions | Tags |

| Problem Solving | 3 | Q07, Q08, Q09 |
| Deduction | 2 | Q05, Q06 |
Questions formats and solution modes
Scenario-Based format used in Q07 and Q08. Q05 Direct Proposition, Q06 Argument Analysis, Q09 is a Daily-Life Problem format. Part three solution modes would like: form inference, constraint/relational modelling and leadership conversion.
Primary format distribution
Prompt, calculation and time profile
Average estimated time 64 seconds, median is 55 seconds. For Q07 90, 85 seconds were estimated for Q08. Q09 55, Q06 50, Q05 is 40 seconds level.
Q05-Q09 estimated time profile
The calculation is minimal. Only Q09 goes on the baseline in terms of load. In Q07 and Q08, reasoning load is 4/5 level, meaning the time pressure comes from the calculation and restricted management.
Distractor architecture
Distractor analysis quantifier mixed, invalid converse/inverse, incomplete constraintcheck, constraint omission and fraction-to-time conversion error are made via structural error paths.
These labels are not measured student error frequency. Student option-selection data explains only the logical structure of wrong options because there is no available.
Detailed review based on thread sets
Q05 on Formal Logic side is availableintial inference, Q06 conditional reasoning structure. The scope of quantitativeities such as “some, all, none, at one” in Q05 is determined invalid converse/inverse separation with valid implication.
The Q07 and Q08 section are the main materials. In two questions, the candidate can not only accept that one option provides most conditions. Each restriction must be individually controlled.
Q09 is the daily life problem that translates the return of the min. Here is not advanced math, cut → minutes → time conversion to clean stages.
Item-level analysis of five problems
Q07
Square-table seating arrangement
Right-sol relations around the square table should be activated simultaneously. If the candidate is connected early to a single possible settlement, or if a condition is missing, he can read the mandatory relationship wrong.
Dominant distractor: Incomplete constraint checking
Q08
Assignment and derangement
The three-color pill is evaluated together with the rule of not to put the same color box. Each possible assignment for secure solution should be tested under all limitations.
Dominant distractor: Constraint omission
Q06
Conditional reasoning
Conditionally recommended structure modes read with tollens logic. Basic risk is to accept converse or inverse direction rather than valid interest.
Dominant distractor: Invalid converse or inverse
Q09
Time and angular rotation
The 1,75 rounds of the minute, then surrounded by time. The challenge comes from advanced math, not from the two clean steps of the representation conversion.
Dominant distractor: Fraction-to-time conversion error
Q05
Existential inference
The presence of a single right example supports a ‘less’ result; but not universal results. This question measures the scope of quantitatively and directly.
Dominant distractor: Quantifier confusion
Q07 transparency note
Q07 Medium Coding was preserved with Confidence Tags
The Coding Confidence value of Q07 in the source report is given as Medium. The second control reduced the Q07 difficulty score once the solution confirmed that it can be solved without requiring full exhaustive search.
This note was not kept silently. The values on the page are the result of internal analytical QA; they are not offered as an independent inter-rater work.
2025 How did Logical Reasoning Part?
2025 Logical Reasoning has been a part that measures the systematic problem-solving discipline with its short form of interest questions; limited and relationshipal editing questions.
The general selectiveness of the department comes from calculation density, not from rule integrity. It takes the scope of a quantitative to wrong options that can not protect the current direction of conditional proposal or all of the settlement constraints.
Data-based interests for 2026 candidates
- Modes should be divided into ponens, modes tollens, converse and inverse structures.
- The evidence power of quantitatives such as “at least one”, “her”, “no” and “some”.
- Seating and related problems should be represented by short drawing or table.
- Options in partial problems should be tested according to all rules, not according to most conditions.
- Permitted/prohibitedwork tables provide quick screening in small search areas.
- Quantitative conversion questions should be divided into open stages.
These interests are based on 2025 profiles; it should not be read as subject or question type guarantee for the future IMAT.
Limitations
- Analytical Difficulty is not the official IMAT metric.
- Estimated time values are analyst estimates; there is no time to browse.
- Student-response data and option-selection distribution are not available.
- Distractor strength is not verified by real student behavior.
- Five question sample is small; the average of three subjects is based on one question.
- Q07 Medium Coding carries Confidence and score in second control is a reduced.
- Two pass QA is not independent inter-rater reliability study.
- Full copyrights have not been published.
