IMAT Research Lab
IMAT 2025 Biology Report
2025 We examine the biology part in the IMAT exam; subject distribution, warning profile, DOK level, skill load, time pressure and question-based technical index.
Executive summary
Biology was the largest part of the 2025 IMAT exam: 60 questions were under 23 biology heads. This corresponds to 38.3% of the test. The average difficulty value of the department was coded as 7.91/25. Biology generally showed a structure that carries selective conceptual load in low-middle difficulty band, but in certain questions.

The most remarkable finding is that the part of the two subjects family is markedly saturated: Cellular Bioenergetics and Human Anatomy and Physiology together 14 questions created 60.9% of the biology section.
Research Method
The values in this report are based on analytical coding made by IMAT Academy Research Lab. Difficult, duration and component loads are not official IMAT metrics; student has not been used accuracy rate or actual solution time.
The purpose is to make a cognitive job from the student of the biology section: whether it is direct information, conceptual distinction, application in the new context, or do you decide safe between close distractors?
General profile of biology section
There is no question entering high or very high visible tape in the biology section. This does not mean the part is insignificant. Since the number of questions is high, Biology has a wide effect on total points.
Difficulty band dagilimi
| Measurement Tags | Value | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Knowledge Depth | 1.48 / 5 | Basic knowledge and conceptual separation stand out. |
| Language Load | 1.57 / 5 | Text load is generally low; technical term tracking is required. |
| Calculation Load | 1.00 / 5 | All biology questions are at the lowest calculation load. |
| Reasoning Load | 1.43 / 5 | Mental execution is limited; selective load concentrates in several questions. |
| Distractor Strength | 2.43 / 5 | Near concepts and partial correct expressions are the main condictive mechanism. |
Topic Distribution
The main weight of the 2025 Biology section is on Cellular Bioenergetics. Topics such as lactic fermentation, glycolysis, Krebs cycle, cellular respiration, ATP/energy pathway and photosynthesis.
Biology topic distribution
This distribution does not mean that the next test will repeat with the same numbers. But in terms of preparation, energy conversion, cellular processes and physiology connections should be established strong.
Difficulty Profile
The average difficulty is 7.91/25, median difficulty is 7/25. The highest value is 13/25 in Q18. Q12 and Q17 create the second layer with 11/25.
| Item | Focus | Difficulty | DOK | Estimated time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q18 | Bohr effect | 13 / 25 | DOK 3 | 65 sec |
| Q12 | Krebs cycle | 11 / 25 | DOK 2 | 45 sec |

DOK and depth of knowledge
13 questions in the biology section DOK 1, 9 questions DOK 2 and only 1 question were coded as DOK 3. DOK 4 questions.
| DOK | Number of questions | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| DOK 1 | 13 | Direct Knowledge / recall |
| DOK 2 | 9 | Conceptual relationship and routine application |
| DOK 3 | 1 | New binding application |
| DOK 4 | 0 | No |
Measured skills
The large part of the biology questions is based on Information Recall and Conceptual Understanding. Knowledge Application stands out only as a prominent primary skill in a question.
| Skill | Number of questions | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Information Recall | 14 | Recall the terms, process or structure information directly |
| Conceptual Understanding | 8 | Determining nearby concepts and establishing relationships |
| Knowledge Application | 1 | New binding app |
Question format
Direct Knowledge in primary question format distribution is ahead with 15 questions. Conceptual Comparison creates the second main format with 7 questions. The Scenario format is marked only in Q18.

Time and load analysis
The average estimated solution time in the biology section is 35.22 seconds, while median is 30 seconds. The Calculation Load is 1/5 in all Biology questions; the selectiveness is composed of more depth of knowledge, accurate context and distractor strength.
Question spots
The following notes explain why the representation power in the Biology section is important without republishing full question texts.
Q18
Bohr effect and texture baglami
The most selective question of the biology set. The question does not only ask definition; oxygen transport is placed in the context of metabolically active tissue that produces H+ and CO2.
Q12
Krebs cycle ayrimi
It requires reading the crebs information not only as the memorization sentence, but with the location and product relationship in the pathway.
Q17
Human physiology yorumu
The correct answer in Physiology questions often comes from a single term, not at the system level.
Q22
Cellular respiration kontrolu
Step, product and organel matching in energy metabolism questions should be controlled simultaneously.
Q27
Membrane transport
It is not enough to know the transport mechanism only as the name; the direction, energy need and membrane protein relationship should be read together.
Q32
Human anatomy knowledge
Anatomy questions can be solved quickly, but the right structure-functional match can be turned into close options.
Preparation interests
2025 Biology profile highlights three working behaviors in the IMAT preparation: energy metabolism and cellular bioenergetics headers should be studied with pathway–organelle–product relationship, human anatomy and physiology should be learned with structure-function relationship and practice to call quick feedback for direct knowledge questions.
Technical index: Q10-Q32
The technical index shows the basic areas of coded by 23 issues in the Biology section. This table report can be controlled more and compared with other section reports.
