The center finds: 2025 Chemistry scanned wide curriculum coverage with short and mostly direct questions. Selective load has risen in terms of choice of very accurate chemical model from long calculation, condition protection and close options separation.
Research methodology
Each question was coded by main topic, subtopic, primary format, primary skill, Depth of Knowledge, language and reading load, calculation load, reasoning load, distractor strength, estimated time and syllabus area. Difficulty scores and estimated times are analytical assessments by IMAT Academy Research Lab; they are not official IMAT statistics or recorded candidate times.
Difficulty bands are defined as 5–9 Low, 10–14 Medium, 15–19 High and 20–25 Very High. All 15 Chemistry questions underwent a second review; Coding Confidence is High for 14 questions and Medium for Q35.
Chemistry profile
The most pronounced feature of the department is the 12 different main issues. No main issue has been covering more than two questions. Therefore, 2025 Chemistry is a section view that performs extensive curriculum screening instead of condensation in a narrow area.
| Component | Average | Comments |
|---|---|---|
| Language & Reading Load | 1.47 / 5 | No long passage; but technical word and condition tracking are decisive in some questions. |
| Calculation Load | 1.20 / 5 | Long calculation is limited; the account load is marked in Q34 and Q39. |
| Reasoning Load | 1.67 / 5 | The correct model selection increases condition protection and rule application selectivity. |
| Distractor Strength | 2.67 / 5 | The highest average component; the close option distinguishes. |
Difficulty band distribution
2025 IMAT Chemistry subject distribution
Redox Chemistry, Acids and Bases and Organic and Biological Chemistry are the most commonly represented main topics with two questions. The remaining nine main topics were measured with a question. Organic and Biological Chemistry separate with Organic Chemistry; Chemical Bonding with Chemical Bonding and Solids are separate source tasonomi tags.

The averages of single question should be carefully interpreted. The average of 15.00 for Chemical Equilibrium is only based on Q41; this value is the analytical load of the single item selected in 2025, not the general difficulty of the entire topic.
Difficulty Profile
Average difficulty 8.60/25, median difficulty is 7/25. The average value is high at the median, shows that at least a large number of high load points such as Q39 and Q41 take up the overall average.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q41 | Chemical Equilibrium | 15 / 25 | High | DOK 3 | 75 sec |
| Q39 | Acids and Bases | 14 / 25 | Medium | DOK 3 | 75 sec |

DOK and depth of knowledge
Eight questions DOK 1, five questions DOK 2 and two questions are DOK 3 levels. DOK 3 questions are Q39 and Q41: one requires the application along with the pH account, the Le Chatelier conditions in the other heterogeneity balance.
| DOK | Question sayısı | Anlamı |
|---|---|---|
| DOK 1 | 8 | Direct information, formula, description or classification |
| DOK 2 | 5 | Conceptual distinction or short rule application |
| DOK 3 | 2 | New context, model selection or multi-conditional application |
| DOK 4 | 0 | No |
Measured skills
Information Recall is dominant skill with eight questions. Knowledge Application and Conceptual Understanding in three questions; Problem Solving is only coded as primary skill in Q39 weak acid pH account.
| Beceri | Question sayısı | Yorum |
|---|---|---|
| Information Recall | 8 | Basic formula, definition, structure and classification quickly recall |
| Knowledge Application | 3 | Application to appropriate item or condition |
| Conceptual Understanding | 3 | Separation close concepts and classifications |
| Problem Solving | 1 | Select the weak acid model and execute the account chain |
Question format
Direct Knowledge creates 5%3.3% of the section with eight questions. Conceptual Comparison occurs in four, two and Multi-Premise questions. Multi-Premise format is used only in Q41, and the part has created the only High-difficulty item.
Primary format distribution
Language, processing, reasoning and time profile
Average estimated time is 37.67 seconds and the median is 30 seconds. Eight questions are estimated at 30 seconds or less, five at 31–60 seconds and two at 61–90 seconds. Q39 and Q41 are each estimated at 75 seconds.
Estimated-time bands
The Chemistry section contains no long passage, but Q35’s number-classification distinction, Q38’s sensitivity to the phrase ‘pure covalent’, and Q41’s multiple-condition tracking still create technical reading demand.
Quarter structure
The report uses 14 different specific distractor tags; Near-concept mess repeats in two questions. This classification describes the potential of actual student option distribution, but the structural proximity and fault generation of wrong options.
Large families can be read as concept/classification/structure confusion, rule or uneven-state error, direction/phase/coached review and decisive consideration of uninterested numerical information.
Detailed review based on thread sets
Acids and Bases are represented by two questions. The difficulty in Q39 is trying to perform a calculation without choosing the weak acid model; in Q40, the selective difficulty of the pH is born. Not numerical data here, the chemical model is decisive.
Redox Chemistry consists of two DOK 2 questions. Q34 rule application, Q35 would like conceptual precision. Q35's Medium Coding Confidence information has not been stored on the page; the source coding is based on the precipitate formation state and ion-value distinction.
Although Q41 is the only Chemical Equilibrium question, it carries the highest analytical load of the section. This item requires the protection of the endothermic direction, equilibrium shift, phase, phases and Le Chatelier principle at the same time.
Bonding stands out Q38 on the periodic properties and atomic structure side: The 'pure' expression makes the difference between electronegativity and extreme electronegativity critical. Organic, biological and granular items are more direct knowledge and short application.
Question spots
The following spots describe the analytical load of high items, without republishing the full question text, the representation power in the Chemistry section.
Q41
Coordinating conditions in a heterogeneous equilibrium
The only High-difficulty item in the Chemistry section. Candidates must track endothermicity, equilibrium direction, phase information and the treatment of pure solids in the equilibrium expression at the same time.
Q39
Selecting the weak-acid model
The demand does not come from arithmetic alone; the first decision is to avoid applying the strong-acid model automatically and instead select the weak-acid approach.
Q35
Classifying a number derived from an oxidation state
The source is marked with Medium Coding Confidence. The distinction depends on recognising that average oxidation-state values may be fractional without being irrational.
Q38
Pure covalent bonding
The word ‘pure’ makes the distinction between equal and merely similar electronegativity critical. The item requires classification precision rather than lengthy calculation.
Q34
Oxidation number calculation
Despite the short stem, the rules must be applied separately across several chlorine compounds. A single calculation error can change the answer.
Q40
Neutral salt solution
Familiar surface-level information acts as a distractor. The correct decision depends on recognising KBr as a salt derived from a strong acid and a strong base.
Preparation interests
The 2025 Chemistry profile shows that the preparation should not be compressed to several popular heads: 15 questions spread to 12 main topics. Basic formulas, definitions, structures and classifications should be called quickly.
While Redox is not only an active-state account, but also the features and nomenclature relationship should be separated. The selection of models in Acid-base questions highlights the temperature, direction, phase and pure solids control list in equilibrium questions.
These interests are based on 2025 data sets; it does not mean that the same topic or rates will repeat in the next test.
Limitations and Quality Control
Analytical Difficulty IMAT doesn’t exist; the estimated time is not measured. Student Correct Rate has no option distribution and real item distinguishing data. Distractor strength is not verified by the behaviour of the observed student.
All Chemistry questions are second-pass checked. 14 Item High Coding Confidence is worth Q35 Medium Coding Confidence. There is no Controversy Flag for Chemistry. Full question texts were not republished, only short paraphrase has been used.
