IMAT Biology Study Guide

IMAT Biology assesses a wide range from basic biochemistry to cell biology, from genetics to human physiology. The questions may require not only recalling definitions, but also interpreting the result of an experiment, relating processes to each other, and correctly reading English scientific terminology.

The distribution below is a retrospective classification of the 2023–2026 exams. It is useful for determining study priority; it does not indicate that the same distribution will be repeated in the next exam. The entire scope of the official syllabus must remain in the study plan.

Data-driven priority

High-yield unit summary

Across the 2023–2026 exams, Animal and Human Anatomy and Physiology, Cellular Energetics, Gene Expression and Regulation, and Cell Structure and Function stand out. This pattern shows the importance of studying cellular mechanisms together with organism-level systems.

How should you study IMAT Biology?

  1. 1

First, establish the basics of Chemistry of Life and Cell Structure; molecules, organelles, and membrane processes are the language of the following units.

  2. 2

Study the topics of Cellular Energetics and Gene Expression by drawing diagrams and comparing the inputs and outputs of the processes.

  3. 3

Instead of separate memorization lists for the Anatomy and Physiology systems, connect them through homeostasis and the interrelationships between systems.

  4. 4

In every study, use English terms in a question sentence; do not just memorize their Turkish equivalents.

Unit-by-unit study strategy

The following unit titles summarize the scope and the approach to prioritize in each area. You can open the available detailed unit guides from the cards.

Common mistakes

  • Confusing the cellular location where processes take place.
  • Evaluating the results of mitosis and meiosis only by the number of chromosomes.
  • Skipping the control group and variables in a graph or experiment question.
  • Considering the units that showed zero in the past distribution as being outside the syllabus.

How should practice questions be used?

Classify the mistakes as lack of knowledge, terminology, graphic/experiment interpretation, and carelessness.

Solve short sets comparing similar concepts; explain why the other options are wrong next to the correct option.

Complete the topic practice with timed mixed Biology sets to measure the transition speed between units.

Frequently asked questions

Which units should I focus on the most for IMAT Biology?

In the 2023–2026 data, Anatomy and Physiology, Cellular Energetics, Gene Expression, and Cell Structure stand out. This helps set priorities, but the entire syllabus remains within the scope of study.

Is it enough to study biology terms in Turkish?

Although it is useful to understand the concept in Turkish, the question stem and options are in English. It is necessary to recognize the terms in an English context and distinguish similar expressions.

Can I skip a unit that had no questions in the 2023–2026 analysis?

No. A zero in the four-year analysis does not mean that the unit is outside the official syllabus or cannot appear in the next exam.
